Competition has been healthy in the Nigerian music sector in 2018.
The likes of Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and a couple others, hardly or never dropped the ball.
In view of this, JAGUDA has decided to engage its readers to help ponder on which artiste would release the first hit song of 2019.
2018 saw YBNL boss, Olamide, releasing the first hit song of the year (Science Student), followed by the his competitive counterparts, Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, while the likes of Teni, Mr Eazi, Mayorkun and a couple others joined the party a bit late but never disappointed its fans.
It is however, not beyond Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and Olamide to release the first hit of 2019 as past records over the years have shown them leading the race in the Nigerian music industry,
Could there there be a little twist to the year 2019?
OLAMIDE
The YBNL boss is considered the most consistent artiste when its comes to releasing albums and hit tunes.
Since the release of his debut album “Rapsodi” in 2011, the Science Student crooner has not lowered his guard, as he has released albums every year till date.
Olamide is surely one act to consider in 2019.
WIZKID
Many have compared him to “Messi” in the music industry, at the same time, it is also not beyond him to deliver the first hit song of 2019.
In the previous year (2018), SOCO which was released in February went ahead to become a ‘national anthem.’
He was also the trend at the tail end of the year after the release of his hit tune, FEVER, which saw Mavins first lady, Tiwa Savage as the only video vixen.
DAVIDO
2018 was splendid for the 30BillionGang crew. From its team leader Davido to the team members, the DMW crew looked like snatching the entire year and pocketing it.
However, with the context in view, Davido, is surely a force to reckon with having served ASSURANCE late April, 2018, the love struck artiste continued pushing on until the year ran out.
Surely, Davido has the prowess to pull out a bunny from his hat.
TIWA SAVAGE
Mavins first lady has been at the eye of controversy since she featured on Wizkid’s FEVER.
That does not change the fact that the artiste has what it takes to set the industry in motion as early as possible.
With hit songs as Lova Lova and Tiwa’s Vibe, the Mavin act has proven a force to reckon with as well.
Could she be the industry’s fire works for 2019?
Lets watch out and see.
BURNA BOY
You would agree with me that this is one person we all should look out for. Burna Boy had an early start in 2018 with his chart-topping album dubbed OUTSIDE.
Rave reviews garnered by the body work made him one of Nigeria’s favourite acts last year, a well deserved titled considering efforts put into the creation of the project.
Meanwhile, at the tale end of the year, GBONA was the song that broke the camels back. Burna still had some tricks to pull on his fans when he served yet another anthem dubbed “On The Low“.
Considering how the artiste ended 2018, he may still have the momentum to set 2019 ablaze in its early days with another hit track.
THE OLD TIMERS WITH THE SAUCE
The industry is never complete without the “Old Timers” who have proven the popular saying ‘the older the wine, the better the taste.’
2Face Idibia, Duncan Mighty, D’Banj, Wande Coal, Timaya and a few others are still very active in this race.
With 2Face’s timelessness (Amaka ft. Peruzzi), Duncan Mighty’s (Fake Love ft Wizkid & Miekeraso) resurrection from a hiatus, D’Banj’s persistent nature, Timaya’s Doggedness (Kom Kom, Bam Bam) and Wande Coal’s talent, there’s no statement that can prove these old timers are out of the game.
Watch them closely.
THE FAST RISERS
Its a competitive environment and while some may crash on the way, some others are heading straight for the top spot.
The “fast risers” have shown so much dedication and have also proven they can make it to the top spot.
Teni, Zlatan, Peruzzi, Victor AD, King Perry are all candidates making big statements in the industry.
They have are definitely not slowing down as far as the race is concerned.
THE WINDOW TO A NEW RISE
2018 also created a gateway to a new rise as the popular Shaku Shaku wave was generally accepted by the Nigerian public.
The kinds of Idowest, Mr Real, Slimcase took advantage of that window.
The A-List artistes (Olamide, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and a few others) also decided to queue into the Shaku vibe and kept the fire burning.
So if you don’t know how to dance a bit of Shaku Shaku, i guess your not a Nigerian.
While we cross our fingers and wait, we want to hear your opinions on who you feel could be that catalyst to 2019. Drop your opinions.
